Program Notes
Verdi's La Traviata, is a visually stunning opera when performed in full. There are choruses, big party dresses, and a whole entertainment section in the middle. It really gives a picture of the opulent and glamour world that Violetta and Alfredo operated in. But for our Storyteller version, we wanted to bring the focus in on Violetta. Our chamber style approach highlights Violetta's internal emotional journey through this show.
Storyteller productions are arranges and written by the Overdressed Duo themselves. This is an original version, seen nowhere else. The mission is to make opera more accessible to newcomers by condensing the music, filling in the storyline with a narrator, and presenting this production free of charge at outdoor, accessible venues. We hope that this format makes opera less intimidating for newcomers, more accessible to those with special needs, and more entertaining for kids (As they can play and dance and talk to their heart's content). We hope to continue producing more Storyteller productions as Overdressed grows!
