BorderCrosSing with Metropolitan City Orchestra

May 12th 4pm

May 19th 4pm

This is the perfect example of when Overdressed says that classical music is everywhere! This concert features the Metropolitan City Orchestra and BorderCrossing choral group performing songs by classical composers from Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico.

Overdressed soprano, Carole Schultz will be singing a solo piece with just her and cello section, and she loves this piece! We highly recommend seeing this concert as it presents music that has a life and spirit much livelier than you might expect from the classical genre.

Tickets are free! Click the image below for more details.

Theater Latte-Da

Johnny Skeeky

May 29th-July 2nd

Opera is super cool, but sometimes the plots can feel a bit dated (the 1800s was a long time ago now.)

Theater Latte-Da is taking a very funny classic opera story and making it a bit more relevant to our modern sensibilities.

Gianni Schicchi becomes Johnny Skeeky as the plot moves from an old Italian home to a tricked out yacht. The rest of the plot? Well its still about the timeless tale of greedy relatives trying to swindle inheritance from a rich family member who has written them out of the will. They beg and plead and try to swindle, but it turns out that the person they asked to help them draft a fake will is an even better swindler than they are.

I, Carole, personally love this opera because its short, funny, sounds pretty, and the plot is akin to watching a reality TV show.

In the not-so-distant future, scientist and entrepreneur Dr. Johann Faust faces a planet in crisis but no motivation to spare humanity its fate. He yearns to find a life of meaning and love. Méphistophélès, a mysterious extraplanar entity with a devilish charm, appears with a bargain:  Relocate Earth’s climate refugees to a lunar colony and win the love of the brilliant physicist Marguerite. Together, Faust and his mysterious companion launch a fanatical quest to save humanity and reach beyond the limits of human potential.  Dr. Faust finds himself torn between the love of his life and the conditions of his bargain.  The music of Depeche Mode is laced into this tale, featuring the work of songwriters Vince Clarke and Martin Gore.
